Okay, so first I had an adventure trying to get OUT of Cedar Falls. All of the on and off ramps for the highway were closed and the only way was the long way via Waterloo. Plus, of all places 18th street was gridlocked because it was basically the only way to get to Main Street to get out of town since the intersection of Main and University was torn up and Waterloo Road was underwater and Main was closed from the firestation to the river. Bah.
Here's pics of the fire station getting ready to go under that I took while waiting in traffic o' hell. As you probably know, this is 18th street, aka around 2 miles from the river.

This is my brother setting up Ladder Golf.

And here's my brother and dad playing Ladder Golf.

Here's part of the massive "Operation: Find a Way Out of BumFuck Nowhere Campground Outside of Palo" All of the lakes? Just fields. It's insane. You'd think we drove on nothing but bridges.

*looks like the ocean, lol*

Aaaannd Army Men Road Block (one of many)

Well Hell. (another of many)

It was raining really hard at this point, so it's hard to see, but I took this picture because it was the first piece of land that wasn't completely covered in water. You can see the water creeping up on it, though.

It's hard to believe but this farm seems to have gotten away with less damage than most places we went by. most places had water covering most of it, or at least to the second floor . These guys only had it in the first level or so, for the most part.

More fields. This is what it looked like all the way home.

Yay! More land! And the farmer seems to be the proud owner of a new lake!

And this is Shellsburg (where I had to stop and get gas. It was also the only way out of the CR area)

This is Vinton. They're completely 100% under water. They have no power and won't have power until at least Sunday. It's a ghost town. We had to drive through the ONE road still open that went around them and I was driving so I quickly took a couple pictures. There used to be a town under all that water. You can just see the tops of a couple vans. Most of it's underwater.

And here are my cats waiting for me when I got home!

Okay. Here are pics (I'm too lazy to scan them) of the Waterloo Courier for the worst two days.
Here's people sandbagging the levee. Which is the only thing that kept the rest of the town from being destroyed.

This is the highway in CF

So, I'mma cheating and just skipping to the 13th. I have more pictures, but I decided to save them for later. Since I have not been in mortal peril this week, all I have are boring pictures anyway. Other than that, I'm feeling nostalgic, so I'm going to share piccys I took at work! A.k.a. Joanna's Ideal Location For Her Zombie Movie.
Exhibit A: Rusty dumpster. Classic.
Whenever I walk to the entrance I feel like there will be either snipers or random people jumping down on me from above. I'm weird like that.
The gaping vagina of the theatre.
Truck!
Hey, this area has won architecture awards or something. It's picture worthy. Shuddup.
Spooooky. Plus I just love the walkways.
Awwww, Freddy Court! You were freaky when we lost power!
My attempt at an "artsy" photo.
Aaaaaaand that's it. Now to take off for the Hulk...
- Mood:busy
So "THE PROJECT" hit a snag. Jenn was stranded due to the flooding and was a bit busy running for her life up and down the state, and I got busy with my sister's "birthday week." Thus, behind. Here's the placeholder for the 10th.
Okay. So Brandon, Joe, and myself went on an adventure to take pictures of the flood waters and try to get to Parkersburg or New Hartford, but the roads were closed :(
Anyway!
Here's Waterloo Road.

And here are a shit load of pics from the Cedar River at the corner of Main and 1st.

This one makes me laugh. I also feel artsy.

The whole Ice House Museum is under water. It's insane. It's almost ready to go up over the train tracks which is the only barrier between it and the main part of town. It's record breaking. The previous record was something like 94.1 feet, we're at 100 and supposed to keep going up. Everyone in town is taking pictures and flocking to the river, lol.
Tried to get to New Hartford but every way in is blocked. Tried to trick the bastards and go to Parkersburg via gravel road and hit this.

But the plus of the entire thing is that I found Avenue Q. LOL. I SLAMMED on the brakes and took a picture.

Keeping on the theme of piccytures of our hoooomes....

That's our sky. Surprisingly cloudy today. Usually it is just BLUE.

Puppy time:

Yes, she is on the coffee table. The huskies love it up there. My parents tried to knock her up, but it apparently didn't take. So no little Arwens running around (we think - I still think it would be funny if all of a sudden she popped out puppies next week, hee).

The air conditioning guys. Too bad I didn't get a pic of the hottie.

Our cars in the desert while the guys work through the garage to get to the attic. They're still up there as I'm writing this. Heh.
Preview for tomorrow: Joanna's zombie movie scouting location shoot.

That's the storm that's been smiting Iowa all evening, night, and now morning. It's kind of neat because you can see some of the shit that's blown into our yard and the storm line.

Here's our backyard. Notice anything different. THERE'S A FUCKING TREE IN IT. lol. Yeah, we didn't notice it at all and go outside and... well, shit.
Here's a better picture describing how it is if you can't remember what the yard look(s/ed) like.
